Tasia Bade gives $1 million to demystify planned giving

To inspire her children and her peers—especially other women—to make thoughtful decisions about their philanthropic legacy, Tasia Bade, a formerly anonymous donor to IU Health Foundation, has decided to make her latest gift public.

Tasia Bade, age 40, made a $1 million gift through her will to support IU Health's workforce development efforts. "I'm being intentional about helping others," said Bade.

She's also being intentionally transparent. There may be people reading my story who have already included, or would like to include, a gift to IU Health in their estate plans without informing IU Health. Nationally, only one in three such gifts are known to the charitable recipient prior to the donor's passing. Bade thinks that is a missed opportunity.

She chose to be open about the gift as an example to her two children. She's excited to involve her kids in philanthropy. Bade's gift received a 1:1 campaign match from IU Health and the money from the match is immediately available. That means the match allows Bade and her children to actively witness the impact of her future gift today!

"One day, my children will be giving, and I want to train them about why they would want to do that," said Bade. "With this gift to IU Health, I can involve them in meetings as they get older. When I pass away, they'll know exactly what I was into and what I cared about. Who knows, maybe they'll teach me something."

Bade also hopes her gift is an example for other women who can use it as a tutorial on how to structure an estate gift for maximum impact. "I love counseling women financially, and to me, giving like this is part of that broader picture," she said.

Bade wanted to openly support IU Health's vision to make Indiana healthier through the Foundation's All the Difference campaign. Bade appreciates that IU Health is taking healthcare outside the hospital walls by making community health an important part of the campaign.

"It's the Congregational Care Network. It's Mosaic Center. It's Crispus Attucks High School," she said.

Bade decided to invest in the professional growth and development of current and future healthcare workers, who take on the responsibility of improving the health of Indiana residents. Working closely with IU Health Foundation staff enabled Bade to be thoughtful and strategic about that choice.
