For the love of children

Bob Feuer has numerous ties to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, which is why he included a gift for the hospital in his estate plan.

After he had multiple surgeries, he appreciates how reassuring it is to know you are in good hands. And he will never forget the care his wife and daughter received when their daughter was born and needed immediate care in the NICU.

"I can't imagine the long-term impact had she not gotten the proper care at the beginning of her life," said Feuer.

Feuer wants to ensure that world-class healthcare continues to be available in west central Indiana. Feuer named IU Health Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement account. As Feuer said, "It's a no-brainer."

Anything I leave to my family from my retirement account will be taxed. Thus the amount they receive will be diminished by the amount of tax paid. IU Health Foundation will pay no tax on the amount it will receive from that same retirement account. Thus, IU Health receives the entire amount of what is left in my retirement account. Although running out of money is a common fear of those living on their savings, the reality is that most people have money left in their account when they die. Feuer intends to live a very long time. In the unlikely event he exhausts his IRA, he included a provision in his will to cover his gift.

Feuer has directed that his estate gift benefit the Child Life Program at Arnett. The Child Life Program, a philanthropy-funded initiative, is designed to alleviate fears experienced by pediatric patients and their families when they are treated in the hospital. This program has already served more than 5,000 children. As a father, Feuer has a passion for this program. His contributions, joining the gifts made by other generous donors, ensure that the program will continue to serve the children of Lafayette, and the surrounding communities, for years to come.
