IRA Charitable Rollover
(Qualified Charitable Distribution)

Create the possibility to shape and advance the IU Health vision by seeing your generosity in action. If you have an IRA and are 70½ or older, you may donate tax-free from your IRA in direct support of innovation across the health system, fund IU Health initiatives to move care beyond hospital walls to address the social determinants of health and, ultimately, make Indiana one of the nation's healthiest states.

Flowchart: Donor directs IRA custodian to make an IRA charitable rollover gift to IU Health.

Benefits of an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

  • Allows individuals 70½ and older to transfer up to $111,000 annually from an IRA directly to IU Health.
  • Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year.
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions.
  • You pay no taxes on the transfer.
  • Your gift is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts.
  • Your gift to IU Health will make a meaningful impact on the future health of Hoosiers.
